Most war of stars Fans already know how Cassian Andor’s story ends, but luckily there’s still a long way to go before this heartbreaking moment: A second season of the fantastic prequel-to-a-prequel series Andor is already in production. The Disney+ drama follows Diego Lunas Cassian, an orphan-turned-thief-turned-resistance fighter as he is slowly swayed to the side of the Rebel Alliance, the underground movement against the oppressive Galactic Empire. Season 1 covers his reluctant radicalization; Season 2 will lead into the events of the acclaimed film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Creator (and Villain One co-writer) Tony Gilroy has already promised that season 2 will be the last of the show, but if season 1 is any indication, Andor will make the best of the remaining episodes. Here’s what we know so far.
When is season 2 coming out?
colliders I reported that first Andor Filming for season two began on November 20, 2022, two days before the season one finale aired on Disney+. Filming will continue through August 2023, with post-production continuing through 2024. Season 1 took three years to film and wrap up, and while that period included delays caused by the pandemic, Gilroy doesn’t expect Season 2 to arrive much sooner. He said colliders His earliest guess would be a season 2 release date of 2024…unless someone at Disney throws a bunch of cash into the fray.
“The only place you can speed up processes is in the post office and the only way you can speed up the post office is with money and money is tight,” he added. “Well, I don’t really know, there should be next May or June or something serious. Someone would have to say, “Wow, we really need this and we’re willing to pay X.” Villain One proven, if you throw money at it, you can post very, very quickly. It’s just very, very, very expensive.”
How many episodes will season 2 contain?
Just like Season 1, Season 2 will have 12 episodes. Running times have yet to be finalized and announced, but if these episodes follow the path of their predecessors, they’ll likely last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.
When in the timeline will season 2 take place?
Like Season 1, the rest Andor takes place in the days before Villain One, in which Andor and his allies steal the plans to the Death Star. That makes Andor a forerunner to Villain Oneitself a prequel to the original war of stars trilogy of A new hope, The Empire Strikes Backand Return of the Jedi.
To make it a little more technical for the die-hard fans out there: the events of Andor Season 1 spans one year: 5 BBY (before the Battle of Yavin, ie when Luke Skywalker destroys the Death Star.) The next chapter will time jump a year and land us at around 3 BBY at the start of Season 2.
Kyle Soller, who plays former Assistant ISB Inspector Syril Karn, narrated esquire“What’s so great about stopping by again [season 2] are the time gaps set up to take you the full five years before you enter Villain One At the end. So there is tremendous growth in the world of Andorbut also in Syril’s world.”
Who will be in the cast?
Expect most of the cast to return – including Luna as Andor and Stellan Skarsgård as rebel conspirator Luthen Rael – as well as several newcomers. said Gilroy Rolling Stone in November 2022: “I take about 30 characters with me. So what gets interesting is that we can now play negative space. If you jump a year, what happened in between? You know the people, you know what their trajectory was. It’s stimulating. We will of course start with new characters in the next 700 pages. It’s going to be all sorts of new things and be just as granular as we’ve always been.”
What will Season 2 be about?
Cassian is no longer a reluctant revolutionary; Next time we meet him, he’ll go to war. But what exactly that looks like remains to be seen. Gilroy is coy with all the details, aside from this: Expect a “very different” storyline in season 2.
“Year One is really about how he becomes, and the last line of this 12-episode installment will encapsulate where we wanted to be,” Gilroy said Rolling Stone. “And we’ll be back a year later. It will be very different. The next four years [of story] it is not about becoming a revolutionary.”
In a separate interview with vultureGilroy added some clarity to the Season 2 storyline: “It’s very much about How difficult is it for the Rebel Alliance to get along with all the runaways and original gangsters? Differing agendas and betrayal? The tension of the next four years, how things are tightening? The Effect of Time on Man?”
Will the Jedi show up in Season 2?
It’s possible, although not likely. Keep in mind that by this point in the timeline, the Jedi are all but extinct, with the exception of a handful, including Ahsoka Tano; Grogu, also known as Baby Yoda; Obi Wan Kenobi; and young Luke Skywalker. But they all have their own shows and movies. Andor never promised a traditional war of stars Experience.
Gilroy even told it colliders“I do not think so [Cassian and his fellow neighbors on Ferrix] know about the royal family. I don’t think they care much about that. I mean how many beings are there in this gigantic galaxy? I think the vast majority of all creatures and beings and sentient things that exist in the galaxy, I think Jedi knowledge and lightsaber knowledge is a pretty small number.”
Still one of the things Andor best done is weave bits of incumbents war of stars lore into entirely separate, equally powerful, standalone stories. The flash of a lightsaber is never excluded.
