Fantasy Football Rankings For Week 12, 2022: Model says start is James Conner, seed Brandin Cooks

With the 2022 fantasy football rankings changing weekly, owners are preparing their rosters for the inevitable grind of the playoffs. The Dolphins have been an unexpectedly big boon for fantasy owners, with Tua Tagovailoa, Jaylen Waddle, Jeff Wilson and Tyreek Hill all proving to be valuable fantasy football picks. These three could be must-haves in Sunday’s Week 12 fantasy football lineups against the Texans. Meanwhile, owners who have found tremendous success from Justin Fields’ recent breakout performances could be left with the quarterback struggling with a shoulder injury. Before you set your fantasy football roster, be sure to check out SportsLine’s trusted computer model’s Week 12 fantasy football rankings.

When it comes to player grading, SportsLine’s model has beaten human experts in fantasy football for the past few seasons, especially when there have been huge differences in grading. Over the course of a season, that can literally mean the difference between winning the league or playing at home.

Last week the model was extremely high on Cowboys running back Tony Pollard and said he would finish on his position as a top 10 player. The result: Pollard ran 15 times for 80 yards and hit all six of his goals for 109 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday’s 40-3 win over the Vikings. Anyone who had him in their lineup was well on their way to a big week.

Now the model, which simulates every NFL game 10,000 times, has released its fantasy football rankings for week 12 of the 2022 NFL season. Go to SportsLine now to see them.

Top football picks of week 12 in fantasy

One player the model is aiming for this week: Cardinals running back James Conner. He’s averaged just 3.17 yards per carry over the past two weeks, but there’s reason to expect more from him in Week 12 against Los Angeles. The Chargers have conceded the sixth-highest rushing yards this season and opponents have rallied 5.5 yards per attempt against them.

With tight end Zach Ertz (knee) out, quarterback Kyler Murray (hamstring) status up in the air and wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins also suffering from a hamstring injury, Arizona’s running game should continue to lead its offense. Last week, Kansas City’s Isiah Pacheco rushed for 107 yards on just 15 carries against a Chargers team that has given up more than 200 rushing yards in three of their last six games. The Los Angeles defense has yet to figure out how to plug their leaky rush defense, and so the model predicts Conner will exploit them enough to finish as a top 15 fantasy running back in Week 12. See who else to target here.

And a massive shocker: Texas wide receiver Brandin Cooks, who has had six 1,000-yard seasons in the past seven years, stumbles violently and doesn’t even crack the top 50 at his position. Cooks have been targeted at least six times in every game this season and 66 times in nine games overall. This is the amount that usually results in a player being a starter in fantasy football lineups week in and week out.

However, Cooks has only 39 catches for 461 yards and a touchdown, and his value appears to be waning after nearly a decade as a fantasy-relevant player. He hasn’t had a single 100-yard game this season and is averaging just over 10 points per game in the PPR format. Even in a Plus matchup against Miami’s 22nd pass defense, the target quality just doesn’t exist, and he’s a player who should be on your bench unless you’re paralyzed at wide receiver. See who else to fade here.
