With rumors he was leaving Ole Miss for the head coaching job at Auburn, Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin reportedly met with his players Tuesday night.
Kiffin felt he owed it to his players and their families to speak directly to them after Monday’s report that he would step down as Ole Miss head coach Friday to become the next head coach of the Auburn Tigers, according to ESPN .
According to the report, Kiffin informed his players that he had not accepted any job offers at another school.

“He told the players his focus is on the state of Mississippi and nothing else and that all reports of him accepting another offer are completely false,” sources told ESPN.
On Monday night, Mississippi’s WCBI News reported that Kiffin would become the next head coach at Auburn after stepping down as Ole Miss’ head coach on Friday.

Kiffin responded on Twitter and shot down the report.
Kiffin has become a coveted commodity in college football as he led Ole Miss to an 8-3 record in his third season at Oxford, Mississippi.

In three seasons, Kiffin has led the Rebels to a 23-11 record, won 10 games in 2021 and brought Ole Miss to the Sugar Bowl.
Following Saturday’s loss to Arkansas, Kiffin addresses the rumors linking him to Auburn’s vacancy as head coach weeks after the Tigers parted ways with Bryan Harsin.
“Fair question,” Kiffin said when asked if he was considered Auburn’s main target, according to AL.com. “Like I said, I like being here. I don’t want to go into next year with a regular season game (still to play), but this isn’t one of those years where you said, ‘We’re going to lose all these guys.'”
