The 1st matchday is officially behind us, the groups are taking shape. The day is overwritten by a clash between the United States and England. But overall we have a tasty slate considering what’s at stake. Qatar need a win to stay out of the unwelcome company of South Africa as the only host country to fail to advance from the group stage. How does the CBS Sports team assess the start of the second game day?

Group B: Wales vs. Iran

Date: Friday 25 Nov | Time: 5 p.m. ET | Location: Al-Rayyan Stadium – Al-Rayyan, Qatar
TV: FS1 and Telemundo | Live broadcast: fuboTV (try for free)
What you should know: This one feels like a must for both teams. Iran could all but be eliminated from the Round of 16 if England defeats and wins over the United States. With England conceding six goals, it could be easy for Iran to wrap up if Wales score a quick goal. Wales boss Rob Page would do well to start Kieffer Moore after the team improved with his move. A win could make Group B difficult for the United States.

Group A: Qatar vs. Senegal

Date: Friday 25 Nov | Time: 8 p.m. ET | Location: Al Thumama Stadium – Doha, Qatar
TV: FS1 and Telemundo | Live broadcast: fuboTV (try for free)
What you should know: Can the host nation avoid the fate of South Africa in 2010 by being the only team not to emerge from the host nation group? It feels like a tall order considering they need at least a point against Senegal. Without Sadio Mane, the Lions of Teranga put on a brave display against the Netherlands before conceding two late goals. They should be able to start their World Cup campaign with a win against Qatar.

Group A: Netherlands – Ecuador

Date: Friday 25 Nov | Time: 11 p.m. ET | Location: Khalifa International Stadium – Doha, Qatar
TV: Fox and Telemundo | Live broadcast: fuboTV (try for free)
What you should know: This is a massive match in Group A as the winner can essentially qualify for the knockout stages of the World Cup. Having struggled but won their opening games, this will be a good test to see if these teams are legit. The Netherlands are a dark horse to make a deep run but Ecuador’s defense will offer a tough test. Waiting until the 80th minute to get the goal going is likely to result in defeat this time if Enner Valencia has anything to say.

Group B: England vs USA

Date: Friday 25 Nov | Time: 2 p.m. ET | Location: Al Bayt Stadium – Al Khor, Qatar
TV: Fox and Telemundo | Live broadcast: fuboTV (try for free)
What you should know: The fall of England will not be easy for the United States — Here are my three keys to victory. You have to be perfect and even that may not be enough to get a result. After six goals against Iran, it will be impressive if the USA can hold the game, especially by a narrow margin Harry Kane is fully fit and ready to go. The United States beat England at the 1950 World Cup, so never say never.
